MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK FOR
(October 25, 2004- New York, NY) Finding Neverland, inspired by events in the life of Scottish author James Mathew Barrie,
explores the boundless imagination of the man behind “Peter Pan” and the poignancy of his emotional journey. The
film’s director Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball) takes a fictional look at the creation of “Peter Pan”
and Barrie’s road to bringing the beloved fairy tale to life. The soundtrack features original music by Polish composer
Jan A.P. Kaczmarek and will be released on Decca/UMG Soundtracks November 2nd.
Educated as a lawyer, Jan A.P Kaczmarek turned to music as an outlet for his strong need of freedom of _expression. He
first composed for the highly publicized underground Ósmego Dnia Theatre, and then for The Orchestra of the Eighth Day- a
mini orchestra that he created. In 1982, he took the Orchestra on tour of American and then recorded his first album, Music
For The End. He then proceeded to compose two more albums and tour Europe before returning to the U.S. where he now resides
in Hollywood. While in the States, he composed scores for Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and Los Angeles Mark Taper Forum.
Kaczmarek was awarded the prestigious Obie and Drama Desk Award in 1992 for his music to “Tis’ Pity She a Whore”
for the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theatre.
After his work in theatre, Kaczmarek set his sights for scoring films in the U.S. since he already had experience composing
for Polish films. He achieved recognition in America as a film composer with his scores for Total Eclipse, Bliss, Washington
Square and The Third Miracle among others. Most recently Kaczmerek worked on the score for Unfaithful leading up to his masterful
work on Finding Neverland. He successfully captures the whimsical mood and heartfelt emotion of the film in a way that enriches
the movie-going experience. The film’s producer, Richard Gladstein, was quoted in the liner notes of the CD as saying
that Kaczmarek’s goal was “to create a soundtrack album that is not simply a rote replica of the music as it appears
in the film, but rather a listening experience that will stand on its own… and it does.”
Finding Neverland’s accomplished cast includes Academy Award® Nominees Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet as well as Academy
Award® Winners Dustin Hoffman and Julie Christie. The ensemble cast successfully transverse both fantasy and everyday reality
by melding the difficulties and heartbreak of grown-up life with the spellbinding allure and childlike innocence of the boy
who never grows up. This children’s literature classic will speak directly to the child in all of us. The Miramax Film
opens nationwide November 12th.
